Applications of Fourier Integral Operators
Fourier integral operators, for the calculus of which I refer to Hörmander [17], have been applied in essentially two ways: as similarity transformations and in the description of the solutions of genuinely nonelliptic (pseudo-) differential equations. The first application is based on the observation of Egorov [12] that if P9 resp. g, is a pseudo-differential operator with principal symbol equ...
متن کاملEigenvalues of Operators with Gaps
This paper is devoted to a general min-max characterization of the eigenvalues in a gap of the essential spectrum of a self-adjoint unbounded operator. We prove an abstract theorem, then we apply it to the case of Dirac operators with a Coulomb-like potential. The result is optimal for the Coulomb potential.
متن کاملThe Existence of Eigenvalues for Integral Operators!1)
Throughout K(x, s) is assumed to be real valued and continuous for A x A (A=[a, i>] is a finite closed interval of the real line). For definiteness we fix the domain 2(T) of the integral operator (1) as the Hubert space L2(A); it should be emphasized at this point that K(x, s) is not necessarily a symmetric kernel. It will be clear from the subsequent analysis that the nature of the spectral se...
متن کاملVariational Principles for Eigenvalues of Compact Nonselfadjoint Operators
Let T be a linear compact operator on a Hilbert space H, Aj be its eigenvalues, IA,1 > /& > ,..., rj be the moduli of the real parts of the eigenvalues ordered so that r, > r2 .... Note that rj is not necessarily equal to 1 Re ;ljj. Let Lj be the eigensubspace of T corresponding to Aj, yj be the eigensubspace of T corresponding to rj, zj = Cjk,, i L,, aj = xi=, -k Mk. Let tj be the moduli of th...
متن کاملDiscreteness of Transmission Eigenvalues via Upper Triangular Compact Operators
Transmission eigenvalues are points in the spectrum of the interior transmission operator, a coupled 2x2 system of elliptic partial differential equations, where one unknown function must satisfy two boundary conditions and the other must satisfy none. We show that the interior transmission eigenvalues are discrete and depend continuously on the contrast by proving that the interior transmissio...
